The WASPI Framework

The framework is made up of two parts:

The Accord – consists of a common set of corporate principles and standards under which partner organisations will share information. Signing up to the Accord records the commitment of each partner organisation, to meet agreed standards for the sharing of personal identifiable information, and to use the framework. The Declaration of Acceptance and Participation MUST be signed by the Chief Executive or equivalent; and

The Information Sharing Protocol (ISP) – identifies the operational data requirements to be shared for specific and lawful purposes.

    The ISP details the:
  • specific purpose(s) for information sharing;
  • group(s) of service users it impacts upon;
  • relevant legislative powers and the consent processes involved;
  • data which is to be shared;
  • required operational procedures and the process for review;
  • means of communicating to practitioners the specific operational requirements.
Essentially this is the “who, why, where, when, what and how” questions of sharing personal information.  There will only be one version of the Accord for Wales, whilst there will be many ISPs.

A set of WASPI documentation has been produced to enable partner organisations develop ISPs in line with the WASPI framework.

Further information and guidance on the use of the WASPI framework, including assistance on developing ISPs, is available through the WASPI Support Team.

If you have any questions, requests or just wish to comment on any part of WASPI or these pages, please email the WASPI Support Team.
